Think I can get a loan?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

375hp ‘murican SBC in an excessively large British grand touring coupe that looks like sex and goes like stink?

Shut up and take my money.

Also I love how it doesn’t look like it sits right because, I assume, the 350 is a lot lighter than the V12 that originally lived there.

You may be able to get a “personal loan” but not an auto loan, and that means massive interest rate (think 12%, at least.)

You would be correct. The V12 doesn’t make any more power, really, and IIRC weighs nearly as much as a 454. With the tetchy engine out of the equation, it’s pretty much just down to demon electrics, demon electrics everywhere.

Lights are for babies. Grand tourers are for daylight and sunshine. It’s not like anything mechanical and not electric on that will try to kill you, probably. Except maybe rust.

An old roommate of mine built one of these with a V12 that had windowed the block and a John’s Cars kit, using a Corvette LT1. It was fun and frightening in equal measure. Once it started to slide, it was almost impossible to catch because it was so squishy and the steering was so slow. Good for donuts though.

I have a real thing for these cars :) I prefer them with the V12 (or the I6), but hell if an SBC keeps it on the road then I’m cool with that.

If it was an HE V12 then the SBC is 99kg lighter (the HE V12s are about 50kg heavier than the non-HE) so that’s a great weight reduction.

I’d be skeptical of the 375bhp figure though, unless it’s a built engine. The Hi-Po LT-1 350 in the early Corvette C3s only managed to crack 300 net hp (370bhp gross rating I think). HotRod magazine did an article on cheap 350 engine building for power and managed to get 395bhp from one, but that was with modern Vortec heads. For reference the stock LT-1 ‘was a solid lifter motor featuring a forged steel crankshaft , 4-bolt main block , 11:1 compression ratio , impact extruded pistons, high-lift camshaft , low-restriction exhaust , aluminum intake manifold , 4-barrel carburetor , and finned aluminum rocker covers ’ (ripped straight from wikipedia, sorry).

It’s certainly possible, but if it’s a 350 rebuilt to stock Mk1/2 Camaro SS specs then it’s making about 230 net hp (but a healthy amount of torque).

All he has to do is prove the HP numbers.

Every Larry, Darryl and Darryl that gets an old SBC thinks it’s a hot Hi-Po version with a “3/4 race cam”, 4 bolt mains and “feullie” heads.

In reality it’s probably a smog era 350 from a 76 Monte Carlo.
